Overview[]
The Old Wizarding Literary Society is an umbrella group that incorporated many pureblood charitable societies and reading groups that existed before the war. It conducts charity drives, holds lectures and reading groups, and generally gives its members a place to be, see, and be seen in the company of the right people.
OWLS membership is restricted to witches and wizards of good family, which is generally taken to mean "pureblood", but there are a few exceptions (mostly politically conservative halfbloods). Membership fees are often waived for the right sort. Members can also bring guests, but bringing the wrong sort of guest is frowned on.
